NVC Status- How to Check the Status of your Application at NVC
NVC Status Check
Check the current NVC status of your K-1 or IR-1/CR-1 Visa Petition with the National Visa Center (NVC) after USCIS approves your petition and sends NVC your files. Do the NVC status check on-line here through the CEAS Case Tracker site.
NVC also has a very good call center with operators willing to help you. As a result, call NVC directly at 1-603-334-0700. In general, the call center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to midnight, Eastern Standard Time. Remember this number well, you call it a lot.
I believe that calling NVC is better than checking your status on-line. The on-line site only tells you if you file is “At NVC”, “In-Transit to the Embassy” or “Ready”. I explain these statuses more below.
First thing to do is to call (1-603-334-0700) NVC about 1 week after you get notification from USCIS that your case was approved and they sent your application to the Department of State (NVC). When you call, have your petitioner’s full name, and the beneficiary’s full name and date of birth available.
You will want to get your case number from the operator. Your case number will consist of three letters followed by ten numbers. The three letters consist of the abbreviation for the foreign embassy. The numbers consist of the year and then number of visa. Be persistent calling until you get your number.
When you call NVC, provide them with your e-mail. Important Notice From NVC:
Immigrant visa (IV) applicants currently working with the National Visa Center (NVC) to complete their IV applications should make sure NVC has a working e-mail address for at least one party on their case. (A case party is the petitioner, beneficiary, or agent/attorney.) If you have not previously given NVC an e-mail address where you can be contacted, please call 1-603-334-0700 to provide your e-mail information. For this purpose, your case number, petitioner’s full name, and the beneficiary’s full name and date of birth available needs to be available. NVC e-mails you information and instructions rather than send them via traditional mail, which means you will receive items like NVC’s responses to submitted documents and notice of your visa interview appointment more quickly.
As we stated above, you can check your NVC Stage status on-line here through the CEAS Case Tracker site.
For IR-1/CR-1 applicants, you need to have your immigrant visa case number to sign in. This is the number that you called NVC for.
For K-1 applicants, you need to select your embassy or consulate and enter your application ID or case number.
If you want to check on an additional case like a K-2 or IR-2/CR-2 for unmarried children of the beneficiary, you can do it separately.
The on-line system will show you the last status taken in your case.
Below are the typical case status statements for IR-1/CR-1 applicants and what they mean:
This means that your case is at NVC and is either ready to be reviewed or being reviewed.
Case was Approved
This means that your case is now being readied for transfer to the embassy or consulate.
This means that NVC has mailed your application to the embassy or consulate, but the embassy has not received it yet.
This means that the embassy or consulate has received your application and they are “ready” for your interview.
