Due to moving far away from home to a new country, many new immigrants to the USA feel very isolated because their social circle has shrunk. In other words, they have left behind their friends, family, work and other people that they normally socialize.
Because of this, new immigrants to the USA feel isolated, home sick, and sometimes bored when they first arrive. In addition, many do not know about things in the community.

For example, my wife just joined a local Fil-Am social group. To start with, we went to the groups summer party. Lea and I met many wonderful people and had a good time socializing at the summer party. We felt very welcomed.
Also, the food was amazing. When Filipinos are together, there is always lots of great food. I am sure that is the case with other ethic groups too.
During the party, Lea exchanged Facebook contacts with many people she met.
Afterwards, she has many new friends and contacts.
Now, we have been invited over to several people’s houses since the summer part.
It is great to have new friends and socialize.
I’m so glad that Lea is meeting new friends and being social.
I enjoy seeing Lea active, happy and independent.
This has made her feel less bored, isolated and homesick.
Joining a club that provides volunteer work for your community is a great way to help your community out. Also, by volunteering, you meet many new friends that like to volunteer.
