About Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers
Today, we give you our Top 3 Recommendations for Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers.
Firstly, an “Expat” is a person that lives outside their native country. The term “Expat” is specifically short for expatriate. However, the person does not have to give up their citizenship as many people think.
Secondly, a “Blogger” is someone who writes and publishes a blog. A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web. Accordingly, bloggers post information or stories on their blog about things that they are very knowledgeable or passionate about.
Thirdly, a “Vlogger” is someone who publishes a video blog (VBlog) on the web through a service like YouTube.
Therefore, Philippine Expat Bloggers or VBloggers provide information about the Philippines or Expat life in the Philippines on a Blog or VBlog.
Why Follow a Philippine Expat Blogger or Vlogger
There are several reasons to follow a Philippine Expat Blogger and/or Vlogger including:
- Traveling to visit or vacation in the Philippines? Therefore, gather information concerning travel, places of interest, tourism, culture, food, safety or other local interests in the Philippines.
- Moving to the Philippines? Similarly, gather information on immigration, visas, cost of living, housing, jobs, transportation, economy, culture, safety and other things for living in the Philippines.

Because Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers live there, they have expert local knowledge.
Take advantage of this local knowledge to learn valuable information before you go to the Philippines.
My Top 3 Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers
My Top 3 list of Philippine Expat Bloggers is purely based on my experiences gathering knowledge prior to going to the Philippines to meet Lea.
I spent a lot of time researching the Philippines and Philippine culture. For this purpose, I used a lot of resources. For example, I read many Philippine websites and blogs. In addition, I watched dozens of Philippine Expat Vloggers on YouTube.
I read many blogs when using my lap top over breakfast or dinner. Also, I watched many YouTube videos of Vloggers when I was tired and relaxing.
However, I mostly found the best information specifically through three Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers including:
- Life Beyond The Sea
- My Philippine Dreams
Therefore, my list of the Top 3 Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers is solely based on who I learned the most from and enjoyed the most.
If you have other favorite Philippine Expat bloggers on your list, please share in the comments.
#1 Life Beyond The Sea by Henry “Reekay” Velez
Reekay is originally from Southern California.
Reekay moved to the Philippines in 2012 without never having been there. He has lived on the island of Bohol. Now, he resides in the Expat friendly town of Dumaguete on the Island of Negros Oriental.
Reekay works in the Philippines as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. In addition, he is most famous for his Philippine expat blog and vlog.
Through his bold move to a tropical island for a simple like and adventure, he helps others by writing in his blog and doing videos on his Youtube Channel.
Through his Blog and Vblog, Reekay shares his adventures about life in the Philippines.
Without doubt, Reekay has both the best Blog and Vblog of all of the Philippine Expat Bloggers and Vloggers.
Reekay’s blog “Life Beyond the Sea” is found at lifebeyondthesea.com.
In addition, see Reekay’s Life Beyond the Sea Youtube Channel.
About Beyond the Sea
Life Beyond the Sea notably won the 2017 Philippines Best Expat blog award. Without doubt, there are many reasons why this award is well deserving.
Both Reekay’s website and YouTube channel, are extremely professionally published. In addition, Reekay has great writing skills in his blog.
Also, in his YouTube videos, it is like Reekay is sitting right there with you just having a great conversation.
Life Beyond the Sea has a vast library of subjects about the Philippines. If fact, his blog and Youtube channel cover about 98% of topics related to visiting or moving to the Philippines.
Furthermore, Reekay’s YouTube channel has almost 700 videos about life in the Philippines.
In particular, Reekay gives all of his information through his personal experiences with living in the Philippines.
For example, his blog and Vblog topics include:
- Philippine culture
- Filipina dating advice
- Travel information
- Local dining and places of interest
- Immigration information concerning longer stays in the Philippines
- Cost of living, banking and budgeting for the Philippines
- Many more Philippine related topics
I feel that Life Beyond the Sea has the best and most information on Filipina dating advice and Philippine culture.
Conversely, Reekay does not talk about marriage in the Philippines, the U.S. Visa process or adjusting to new life back in the USA. Albeit, this is because he talks about his actual experiences. For example, he has not experienced these things. However, these are the things that we concentrate on in our website and blog www.lovevisalife.com.
In addition, Reekay offers other special features on his blog including:
- Podcasts for those that rather listen.
- A bachelor course
- Private consultations on Facebook or Skype for a small fee of $35 per hour.
I read through Life Beyond the Sea’s blog and watched almost all of Reekay’s YouTube videos before I visited Lea in the Philippines. If you are going to visit or live in the Philippines, I also suggest that you do too.
#2 My Philippine Dreams by Ned Kelley
Ned Kelley is originally from Boston, Massachusetts in the USA. Therefore, he is a New Englander just like me.
Similarly to Reekay, Ned also lives in Dumaguete on the Island of Negros Oriental in the Philippines.
Ned’s real job of freelancing with on-line work allows him to live in the Philippines where the cost of living is lower. In addition, Ned loves it in the Philippines where the weather is great, people are friendly, and there is plenty to do in the beautiful tropical paradise.
Ned also has a great blog and YouTube channel called My Philippine Dreams. Ned is also one of my favorite Philippine expat bloggers and Vloggers.
Ned’s blog “My Philippine Dreams” is found at myphilippinedreams.com.
In addition, see Ned’s My Philippine Dreams YouTube Channel.
While Ned has a great blog, his heart and passion is in his Vlog on his YouTube channel.
Through both his website/blog and his YouTube channel, Ned concentrates on the following subjects that relate to the Philippines:
- Why the Philippines? For example, why move to the Philippines? Conversely, why not move to the Philippines?
- Relationship advice.
- Cost of living and budgeting in the Philippines.
- Philippine immigration information.
- How to get health care in the Philippines.
- Seeing the sites of Cebu and other islands.
- Current news, events and editorials on the Philippines.
- Links to additional information.
As we previously mentioned, Ned really excels in his YouTube videos. Besides being a great writer, Ned also is very comfortable on video camera. For example, he does some really unique things with his Vlog including:
- Livecast videos. For his purpose, go onto his YouTube channel at the time he is live. Then, ask him any questions that you have about the Philippines.
- Short video vignettes on the day-to-day life in the Philippines.
- Monthly budget information for living in the Philippines.
- Regular YouTube videos on all of the subjects in his blog.
Most of the time, Ned does his Vlog videos on his porch. This is a nice relaxing environment.
I really enjoyed reading MyPhilippineDreams blog before I went to the Philippines. Also, Ned’s YouTube channel helped me a lot before I went to the Philippines.
In addition, I still read the blog and watch his videos for Philippine informational updates. Lea and I want to retire in the Philippines in a few years. For this purpose, we like updates on life there. Hence, MyPhilippineDreams helps us get our information on the Philippines.
The third of the Philippine expat bloggers that I enjoy is Sez from SezStyle. Sez and his beautiful Filipina wife , Lyn, produce their Vlog together as a team.
See SezStyle on his YouTube Video channel. However, Sez does not have a website blog that I can find.
When I first started watching SezStyle, his videos were based on his new unconventional relationship, the K1 Visa process, and adjusting to new life in the USA. Sez and Lyn were then living in San Fransisco.
These original videos were great for me because I was just starting a long distance relationship with Lea. Most of his older videos are about Filipina relationships and starting a new life together.
These older video are still available on his YouTube channel. However, be careful with the SezStyle K-1 Visa process videos as they are over 2 years old. For those that follow my site, you know that the U.S. Visa process is always changing with forms and requirements . Therefore, these videos are very outdated in terms of using them for your K-1 visa process.
In fact, there has been a significant amount of changes in the U.S. Visa process within the last year. Following old Visa advice can get you delayed or denied. Hence, stick with our site www.lovevisalife.com as we follow the changes as they happen. We revise our site along with the changes in Visa process.
What I like most about SezStyle’s style is that Sez is always on the move. In fact, his videos are never boring. He loves walking around to show you things. Therefore, it feels more engaging. Sez has lots of energy and is also very funny.
Recently, Sez and Lyn have made a major relocation back to the Philippines.
That being the case, SezStyle is now truly one of the Philippine expat bloggers, or Vlogger in his case.
Sez and his wife now live in the Angeles City area of the Philippines.
Now, his videos include stories about expat life in the Angeles City area.
SezStyle also has what he calls “PhilPat Radio”. These are audio files of posts for those that like to listen.
Lastly, SezStyle also has a “Late Night with Sez- Live Broadcast”. For the live broadcast, Sez interviews people who relate to the Philippine Expat community and the Philippines. This is also done in audio format.
SezStyle provides a lot of great information. SezStyle’s style is a little more unconventional than other Philippine expat bloggers and vloggers. However, that is what I like most about his channel.
